Meet 2023 President’s Award honoree, Donna Kincman, Manager of Volunteer Services and Visitor Management. To her, More than medicine is: Giving Back. “I’m grateful for the work I get to do. I recruit candidates from all over and welcome them to give back to our community. I believe our volunteers are at the very heart of our mission, serving our patients and creating exceptional experiences. Volunteerism is also an integral part of our healing journey. Kindness heals. Compassion heals. A smile heals. I’m inspired to continue giving back to our people and patients, knowing that I’ve only just scratched the surface of what’s possible.” At Southcoast Health, our promise to you is exceptional care from people who care. How do we do this? By working together, as a team. Every one of our employees plays a vital role in ensuring we provide the best care to you, our valued patients. Here, we introduce you to some of the amazing people of Southcoast Health. You may recognize them as your family, friends or neighbors. To us, they define what it means to be More than medicine. Didi Theva, MD, Southcoast Health urologist and pelvic floor reconstructive surgeon, explains that women often put their own health issues and daily discomforts, including pelvic floor disorders, on the sideline. The pelvic floor supports a woman’s uterus, bladder and bowel. Pelvic organ disorders will affect 40 percent of women in their lifetime. Many women avoid their pelvic health needs for various reasons, and the issues that arise from conditions of the pelvic floor can result in serious dysfunction of basic activities of daily living such as toileting. “When a woman suffers from pelvic floor conditions such as prolapse or bowel or bladder incontinence, it often causes her to feel embarrassment and shame. These women then shy away from the world, preventing them from leaving their homes and staying active,” says Dr. Theva. “This ultimately leads to the downstream effects of declining cardiovascular, mental and social health.” Dr. Theva wants women to feel empowered to seek help to live their healthiest, happiest life. This month we celebrate the strength, resilience and wellbeing of women everywhere! For women’s health resources please visit: https://lnkd.in/e7sXtVV9

“My parents emigrated from Korea to the US in the early 80s – at a time when the Korean economy was seeing rapid economic shifts. Having graduated pharmacy school in Boston in 2015, working at Southcoast has been an experience that I never could have imagined after growing up in New Jersey as a first-generation Asian American.” – David Chang, Pharmacist and Epic Clinical Analyst During Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, we are proud to spotlight and celebrate our AAPI colleagues, recognizing their unique journeys and contributions to our diverse community.
