Falmouth ‘Plug Into Spring’ Event Unveils Eversource Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Recently, business and community members attended Falmouth’s ‘Plug Into Spring’ event to celebrate the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL).

During the event, Selectwoman Susan Moran, Jeffrey Fernandez, Vice President of Operations at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and representatives from Eversource, WHOI and MBL spoke on the development of EV infrastructure and its benefits to Massachusetts and Falmouth area.

The Eversource EV Charging Station program is helping to increase access to electric vehicles by covering all electrical infrastructure costs needed for the stations. As part of their commitment to saving customers money and energy, Eversource manages the process from start to finish. In turn, participating businesses only have to purchase and install the charging equipment.

“In Massachusetts, more than 40 percent of greenhouse gas emissions come from the transportation sector,” said Eversource Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer Penni Conner. “We are actively working with municipalities and companies across the state to address this issue by installing more EV charging stations and connecting them with energy saving solutions. With the added convenience and access, we hope that more motorists will make the switch to electric vehicles.”

WHOI installed four EV charging stations. Two are at the Institution’s Clark Lot at 360 Woods Hole Road, and two are in its parking lot located at 49A School Street.

MBL installed two charging stations in its Swope Center parking lot at 5 North Street.

Eversource’s EV charging station program covers all electrical infrastructure costs needed for the stations and manages the process from start to finish. In turn, participating businesses only have to purchase and install the charging equipment.
